Hey y’all! I’m a wife, daughter, sister and friend, but from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. (and let’s be real, often other, crazy hours) I’m the Assistant Director of Media Relations at the Southern Conference. I played softball from 5-18 years old, so when I went to a college that didn’t have a softball team. I knew I wanted to stay around the sport. I interviewed to be a batgirl for the Clemson baseball team, knowing that if I was going to be at all of the games anyway, I might as well have the best seat in the house.
In my first year as a batgirl, I learned about the sports information office and quickly realized that sounded like my dream job. In high school, I thought I wanted to be a broadcast journalist, but college helped me quickly realize I enjoyed being behind the scenes much more. I love to talk and have an outgoing personality and have always had such a passion for sports, so when I learned sports information combined my love of sports and my love of communication, I was sold. I reached out to Clemson Sports Information director (and now CoSIDA Hall of Famer) Tim Bourret, and he let me volunteer in the summer. Turns out, I met my husband that summer working in the Clemson SID office!
After proving myself over the summer, Tim allowed me to stay on as a student assistant and eventually a graduate assistant. Those years just reinforced that sports information was the profession for me. Now, four years and three jobs later, I’m still learning and loving my job. I’ve been the lone SID at a DII school fresh out of college, an assistant SID and the men’s basketball contact at a mid-major, and have now settled into a role on the conference side of things. I miss the interaction with the student-athletes, but I love the work/life balance!
I have also gotten more involved in CoSIDA, serving as both a mentor and mentee and helping on two committees. I love networking and meeting other young professionals in athletics. There is always room to grow and I embrace that! I am so looking forward to branching out and helping out as a part of Sparkles & Sports and am excited to see what 2019 has in store for both me and the website!
